pdMETRIC
By Paulo Valente #1090 "pdMETRIC" (2ar)Hi
My name is Paulo Valente.
I’m a brazilian 74 years retired architect who used to sail hobbiecats and Laser boats. When, for the first time I saw a picture of the pdRacer, I decided to build one for miself. For two main reazons: I can’t no more afford to handle a Laser and, as an architect, I love the “less is more” concept of your ideia... a sailboat borning from 2 simple sheets of playwood is amazing!
So, I started by the menu, having a hard time to found a 4’by 8’ playwood in Brazil ( here, like most of Europe , Japan, etc, we use METRIC sistem and no IMPERIAL like you in USA ) The nearest I found was a 11 milimeter 4’x8’ they here use for form to concrete. It tuned too heavy for my cart and miself. I aborted the construction.
Then, I started a new concept, based mostly on the shape of brazilian playwood and weigth. I’ve learned to efficiently glue Stirofoam on wood. I used 1600X 2200 x 4 milimeter naval playwood. So, I used a sandwich of this two materials in a way I think, for instance, worked very well. The hull I’ve got is your label curvature is strictly obeided.
Sorry for my English...I did my best to transform it in a good idea.
I am send you some pictures of my work till now in the next e-mail. Becouse I never know how meny gows in a sigle e-mail
Best regards
Paulo Valente
